I'm wetting my pants!

feeling sluggish
Great weekend with The Boy. Saw The Watchmen. It was okay; I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if I were more familiar with the comic. Or, you know, at all familiar with the comic.
Got off work early, which was nice. The parentals are going to Vegas for a week so I'm overtaking their house to do my laundry fo free for a week since my dryer is on the fritz.
Off to finish this episode of How I Met Your Mother before bed.

An Open Book
I'm sitting in my bookstore today, minding my business. Reading my book. In comes this woman. She's been here before, I know she's obnoxious. She tells me her brother has been in earlier then pauses, as though expecting me to know exactly who her brother is and make some comment on him. She tells me his name, as though everyone gives me their name when they come in. And she's sat her for the last two hours just talking at me. Someone please come and take her away! I just want to keep reading American Gods!!

Back in Black!

Allison and Ivan kissy face
I am back in the Burg and back with The Boy and life is good.  Who knows, maybe I'll get the interwebs again at some point and be able to post more frequently.  Back to work!

Mojitos = love

in vino veritas
When you're going on 5 hours of sleep and most of the day in an air conditionless car, one mojito before dinner is all it takes.  I'm feelin' pretty good right now.

Who knew I could ever like rum again?

Cars are expensive and stupid

hmph
I love my car.  Don't get me wrong.  My little Artemis is a trooper.  But lately...not so much.  It started last fall on my first trip to Detroit.  I had a spark plug go bad but Ford tried to take advantage of my wallet by telling me I needed $1000 worth of work.  I didn't get it done but it was an expensive weekend just the same.

About a month ago, I developed a rattle after I scraped the curb going in my brother's driveway.  So I took it to the garage but they ran out of time.  I made my way, once again to Detroit.  Halfway there I thought my muffler sounded like it had a whole.  I stopped at a rest area three hours away from home and my muffler was barely hanging onto my car.  We had to get up early on Saturday to take my car, which wouldn't go over 25 mph, to the garage.  I had to have the entire exhaust line on the undercarriage of the car replaced.  $400.

Then, the rattle got worse when whatever it was hit the street when I was parking to see Mamma Mia the other night (really good movie by the by).  The next day I took it to the garage.  I had a broken spring and had to have the rear struts replaced for $700.  I figured, while they were at it, they may as well fix the AC.  They called back and said the front struts were pretty much shot too and the stablizer bar needed to be replaced.  $1600.

Now my car rides really well and I am poor.  But I still love her and I will now drive her until she absolutely drops.  DROPS I say.

Look! I'm back! *waves*

hmph
I've been gone because...of nothing.  Absolutely nothing has been keeping me from LJ other than sheer laziness.

I am moving to Virginia in August and I have slowly, slowly, begun to pack.  I think I have maybe 4 boxes of books.  I've got to pick up some more boxes and decide what to get rid of and blah, blah, blah.  Moving is such a hassle, but I'm excited about it.

Really, I've just been reading quite a lot lately.  I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife, which pretty much broke me for a day or two.  I immediately loaned it out and now I kind of want it back so I can reread it.  Right now I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love based on a recommendation from one of the ladies at work.

Oh, speaking of work, I got a raise after my annual review.  One grade below the max.  So that's nice.

GS came to visit for a week awhile back.  We had fun doing mostly nothing.  I do adore that girl.  This weekend I'm headed to Detroit to visit Sara.  We're going to see our boyfriend James McAvoy in his new movie.  And I'm sure we'll find our way into a bookstore at some point.

I guess that's it for me.  Wow, I'm not doing much.  Anyway, to bed.  10 hour work day tomorrow.  Ugh, I'll be glad when this week is over.

P.S.  I promise to be better about posting.

Cleaning

Not my day
My parents are coming next weekend and I decided that this weekend had to include a drastic overhaul of my closets and apartment in general.  I re-arranged furniture and got a new bookshelf.  But I thought I'd share some pictures of the cleaning in-progress.

Now all I have left is taking out the trash (I have lots of it), trading in two boxes of books, dishes, cleaning the bathroom and vacuuming.  It's going to be a long week I think.

Easter lunch outrage

brian says fuck you
More proof that you should never talk politics at the family dinner table.  I was with Brother at his partner's family Easter get together.  Partner had to work so it was just Bro and I.  Sort of awkward, for me anyway, since I don't know them all that well.  They've been nice enough.  Quite nice and welcoming to me, actually.

Anyway, today someone said something about Barack Obama being the next president.  M said that she was going to vote Republican.  Whatever, not much surprise there.  But then T said that she couldn't vote for anyone who had a 20-year relationship with Obama's minister, who preached racism and prejudice.  That she would vote for McCain instead.  Brother and I were both positively perplexed.  I don't know much about T's previous marriage, but usually previous marriages are no good, what with them being previous and all.  I wanted to ask how she would like to be judged based on her relationship with her ex-husband.  Instead,  I remained quiet since I don't know them well enough to be all outspoken and everything.

So, I'm just going to make this request.  If you cannot bring yourself to vote for whomever gets the Democrat nomination, please just don't vote.  No need to ruin it for the rest of us by voting for McCain.

Humdrum day

feeling sluggish
I went to bed around 6:30 last night with a migraine and slept all night.  Went to work for an hour then came home and slept all day.  Subtracting the three hours I was getting ready for and at work, I slept for about 20 hours.  And I still have a stupid headache.

But in good news, my mom sent me a package!  She sent me Yellow Peeps with a note "I will never forget the different color chick tasting contest!!"  See, I've always held that I like the yellow peeps best because they taste better.  One Easter at Bum Lake, my extensive family doubted and put me to a blind taste test.  I passed with flying colors.  In fact, the only time I didn't guess each color right was when they tried to trick me by giving me all pink, and even then I knew there wasn't any yellow included.  Because anything besides yellow is gross.  It's funny though, things people remember that seem so unimportant at the time.

On reading

bookworm
I finished Dracula about 3 minutes ago.  It was really refreshing actually wanting to pick up a pencil and make notes in the margin and underline certain passages.  It's comforting know that I don't have to do that but want to anyway.  Reminds me that my brain's not dead.  At least not yet.  There's so much in this book.  Of course there's all the sexuality because, well, vampirism=sexy apparently.  I'm not one to argue in this case.  Tomorrow I'm going to rent some version of the movie, probably with Gary Oldman.  Ooh, sirius!Dracula.  May take a day or two to sort through all my thoughts.

Time for nonfiction, I think.
